21 day fix!

All I am going to say is… 21 Day Fix Here I Come!

I started yesterday with the cardio fix video and holy smoke I am SORE today!!! I was very skeptical but the videos are fun, challenging, easy to follow and got me sore in some places I didn’t know could be sore. And I workout regularly.

I got my containers today and I’m excited to start eating my meals with them as my guidelines! I am very much a person who benefits from external accountability so the very clear expectations that the programs lays out for me will be great as well as my awesome groups on Facebook! The ladies are encouraging, helpful, funny, so real and all doing the same thing which is helpful!

I also got a shakeology drinker cup but for now I am not buying their protein powder. It’s crazy expensive and I have been happy with an alternative so far.

Wish me luck and I’ll check back in 3 weeks!

Thanks Little Green Pouch!

About a week ago I entered a Mother’s Day photo contest with Little Green Pouch via their Facebook page. I honestly figured there was no way we would win since there were a ton of entries so I was extra excited when we got an email that said, “Congratulations on winning 2nd prize!” Thanks for the awesome prize Little Green Pouch! We have loved your products since my oldest started on solids 4 years ago!

Here’s the photo I entered with the caption, “I love teaching my little guy new tricks!”

Little Green Pouch graciously gave us 2 of their new 14oz pouches and a gift card to use on their website! With the gift card I plan to get a few smaller pouches and maybe a funnel for easy filling!Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 8.02.39 PMIMG_1355

These pouches have a been a favorite of mine since the both kids were small! I love that I don’t have to buy the expensive pouches from the store and that I can control the ingredients that go in! My kids love to fill them with “flavored” yogurt, applesauce, smoothies and other blends. We take plain yogurt and add either maple syrup, jam or apple sauce to make our flavored yogurt!

Spicy Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies!

The only cookie recipe(s) you’ll ever need!

Chocolate chips, oatmeal, brown sugar, vanilla and spicy pecans = an unforgettable experience!

I thought I had this cookie recipe down perfectly until I decided to be feisty and throw in some Trader Joe’s sweet and spicy chopped pecans! Boy am I glad I did! It made them a little crunchy and slightly spicy which was a great combination!

these little bad boys make all the difference! Now, if you don’t like spicy just leave these out and follow the same recipe for the best chocolate chip cookies you’ve ever had! I actually only put the pecans in half so my kiddos could eat the other half!

My little helper!

Whomever said, “Don’t eat cookie dough should be shot!”

Here’s the details:

Freezer you say?! Yes! There is something about the combination of the slightly undercooked cookie when frozen that is divine!

My Favorite Kid Things!

My kids are 4.5 and almost 2 so we are in a new stage of things that work well for our “on the move” lifestyle! Any past favorites would include bottles, blankets, swaddles (miracle blanket I’m talking to you!!!), sleep sacks and pacifiers. However, now that my kids are older my favorite things have evolved! Check them out below!

Header 1

  1. The BOB stroller: I never go anywhere without one of my jogging strollers! It gets the job done where ever I am: park, mall, rough and smooth streets, runs, grocery store trips and more! I have tried a ton of other strollers and I’ll never not have or recommend a BOB. Yes, they are expensive but in my opinion they are worth every penny! Ask for one as a joint gift or buy one used on craigslist. You’ll thank me!

2. “Buddies”: my daughter coined all stuffed animals as buddies so we’ve just going along with it! They each have their favorite and one always includes a jellycat stuffed animal! Harvey loves the elephant and Trevi loves her guinea pig! They also have a few other favorites!

3. Squeeze pouches: they make it so easy to have a quick snack on the go! We love the ones filled with yogurt, veggies and fruit! We also can’t wait to start making our own from the awesome contest we won from Little Green Pouch! (more on that in a later post!)

4. The Honest Company: I have been using The Honest Company’s products since Trevi was a baby and I love all their stuff! We get their bundle delivered and while I like trying  the new products that they come out with I always get a few staples such as sunscreen, bath products, cleaning products and hair care products. I love that the products don’t contain any harsh chemicals so they are safe for my kids! Plus, their scents are divine!IMG_1297

5. Klean Kanteen: my kids are always on the move so they are always thirsty too! I am diligent about always having a sip cup of water for them! I especially love the bottles //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=kateteodoro-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B009F7XR5Y&asins=B009F7XR5Y&linkId=TZXNU3W43M5GVCRL&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true“>below because they won’t spill in my purse and they can take a quick sip without having to fuss with a lid. Just don’t forget to put the stopper in like I have on many occasions! 🙂IMG_1298

6. LunchBots: These lunch boxes are awesome! They come in a ton of different shapes, sizes and colors! I use them for my kids almost daily. I love the compartments and the size! We use //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=kateteodoro-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B0044R7VUC&asins=B0044R7VUC&linkId=FZUVP42G57IRZFY4&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true“>this one specifically.IMG_1300 (1)

7. Hyland’s Teething Tablets: With Trevi teething just passed us by but with Harvey… Oh boy. It has been rough. He looses sleep, cries constantly, is whiney and acts like he is going to chew his hands off. //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=kateteodoro-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B00SAEMWBI&asins=B00SAEMWBI&linkId=K7S557RX7CTGUV3I&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true“>These teething tablets have been super helpful for nighttime and nap time. IMG_1306

8. A sound machine: both of my kids sleep with one on fairly loud. It drowns out each other, sounds from the building and street noise. We have used //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=kateteodoro-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B0091E31KM&asins=B0091E31KM&linkId=XJXAVPIQP44GV2KC&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true“>this one since day one and I bring it on all my trips! Huge fan! We don’t use any of the timer options or other noises except “white noise”.IMG_1308

9. Target diapers and Costco wipes: I will never switch to any others. I have tried them all and in my opinion none work as well as these two!!! Target diapers are the most absorbent and the most inexpensive which is a win win! Costco wipes have the most moisture and clean up messes quickly! Both are unscented and work well for even sensitive skin. IMG_1310 (1)

10. Books: from day one we have read books to our kids and even today they will ask for books before any other toys! They love the pictures, stories and turning the pages! We have boxes of books that we rotate so they always seem new and exciting! We also hit up the library weekly to add to our collection! We will forever and always love books!IMG_1311

11. Crocs: my kids love Crocs so much! They are the first shoes they wear and seeing the teeny tiny ones just make me laugh! We have been given all our Crocs as hand me downs and they have lasted so well!IMG_1312
Thanks for checking out my favorite things! I would love to hear your favorites in the comment section! You just might help me grow my list!!

And of course ,please email me or comment on the post with any questions!

Happy Mother’s Day! (a little late)

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! I know I am day late but I had an off day yesterday and didn’t even hop on the internet once. That being said, Happy Mothers’ day to all the moms I know old and and young!

Had we been back home, Mother’s Day would have probably involved brunch and dinner with both our families but since we don’t live by them we decided to spend the day with another especially wonderful mom and family we know! We always have fun with the Van Dyke clan!

Thanks for taking photos, Meg!

And thanks to these crazy kids who made me mom!

I suppose the cute guy pictured had something to do with it too! 😉

And here’s a shout out to a few of the many other amazing moms I know!! All of you inspire me, encourage me and are such awesome role models to me!

5 tips for new runners!

First, let me say that I am not a professional runner, nor am I even that good of a runner. However, I do enjoy going out for a run and I have learned a few things over the years of starting and stopping numerous times! Here’s some of my running history in case it helps you:

  1. The most I have ever run at one time is 8 miles. This has only happened once. haha
  2. I got shin splits very regularly until I found the right shoes for me.
  3. I log on average 10-12 miles a week plus 3-4 days at the gym.
  4. I gain weight when I run. Boooooo
  5. I do not use any special running equipment besides my phone to track my distance and to listen to music.
  6. I run s.l.o.w. about an 11 minute mile.

See, I’m not pro! However I do have a few tips for new runners:

1. Run for time: as a new runner nothing can be more discouraging than planning to run 3 miles and realize you can’t. It may be physically impossible for you or you could injure yourself. At the very beginning, run for time and nothing else. Don’t worry about your pace, distance or anything else. Once you can run for 30 minutes uninterrupted you can start changing things up!

2. Start slow: when you’ve decided to start running it’s easy to get excited and do too much too early. Your body needs time to learn and grow while you are starting a new physical activity. A great way to start slow is to use the couch to 5K plan. It starts off with a walk/run combination with the end goal being either a 5K or running for 30 minutes over the course 9 weeks. This is an ideal way to start! I’ve used this method a few times over the last few years to get me back into running again. It also got me ready for this race: The Monster Dash in Denver!

IMG_0588 (1)

3. Dont skimp on shoes: let me be the first to tell you that shoes can make all the difference. It may be hard to drop $80-100 on a pair of shoes but your body will thank you. In the past I always wore the same brand of shoe because it was popular and it seemed everyone else was doing it. I finally went to a local running store and they did all the fittings and tests to find me the right shoe. To save a few dollars I bought the shoe they recommended but last year’s model.

4. Sign up for a race: for some people this can be great motivation to get them out the door and logging the miles. Sign up for a local run that isn’t too long of a distance and also gives you enough time to train. The idea of having a deadline can be encouraging and I promise the excitement from the race will get your adrenaline going! Some good ones to look for are The Color Run or some sort of holiday run!

5. Find what works for you: this can be very  broad and cover lots of aspects of being a new runner. Find the right clothing and gear for you! I have found specific things that work great for me while on a run: a //ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=tf_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=kateteodoro-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B004QQTDA2&asins=B004QQTDA2&linkId=35QUW4HGXNAIRPM5&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true“>waist belt to put my phone in. I cannot run with a phone in my hand, especially my left hand. Weird, I know. A running hat works great for all weather. Socks are important to me personally. I like bombas and these. As is a very supportive sports bra. Find the right music! Or no music at all. I love to run to upbeat music or a podcast that I love! It’s distracting and motivating. Find the right atmosphere! I like to run alone. For some people it’s a run club. Others it’s a single running buddy. Some people love to run on the treadmill while others hate it. It may take some time and trials by error but eventually you’ll find what works best for you.

Trevi is 4.5 today!!

Happy half birthday my sweet and feisty girl! For most, and frankly me until now, a half birthday was not something to celebrate. However, my first born is almost 5. I feel like she was born a week ago, turned 4 yesterday and seriously when did she get so tall?! We thought we’d start a new tradition of something special on half birthdays and Trevi’s chose ice cream of course! She actually chose frozen yogurt but that is happening later so I had a scoop of ice cream in her honor!

Grater’s coconut chocolate chip… you will never disappoint me!

We also thought we’d take her to the track to ride her big girl bike on her special day. And well, that was a huge fail hahah. She took one look at the park and ditched her bike.

She has no interest in her big girl bike. She can ride her balance bike like a champ and literally rides it all over Pittsburgh but as soon as she gets on her big girl bike she is distracted and wants to get off.

She has tried her big girl bike inside but still shows no interest in learning to ride it outside or without training wheels… some day maybe?!IMG_6997

She’s even comfortable on a bike WAY too big for her! hahaIMG_8336IMG_8723Any advice to get her going?

For now, we’re going to celebrate her half birthday in style…

IMG_1226A girls gotta grow somehow!
